Leaving the Door Open for Others Shows Kindness and Caring

Have you ever had anyone say to you,’Our door is always open when you need it’, or ‘We’ll keep the door open for you’? You’ve probably encountered that when saying goodbye to friends, family, or leaving a job. After hearing it, how does it make you feel?

Why Keep the Door Open?

If this saying resonates with you, you’re not alone. Hearing it can bring comfort and security to your well-being. Keeping the door open in a metaphorical sense is heartwarming to others and to yourself. For one thing, it shows that you’re not closing off new people from entering your life. Another thing is that you’re not closing your own friends and family out of your life.

For example, friends who haven’t seen each other for extended periods of time can feel like they have been forgotten. They may not feel like they are welcomed back into the other person’s life because of their absence. They may think that if they stayed in constant contact, then they wouldn’t have this feeling of being left out.

In another sense, having previous employers keep the door open for you after leaving a job, for example, can be comforting. Though you may not go back to it, the knowledge provides some kind of comfort in your subconscious. There’s people out there who don’t want to be unemployed.

Big Hearts

Let’s switch gears and talk about the ones who keep the door open. These kinds of people have big hearts. I consider them to be open-minded people who have a great deal of care toward their family, friends, co-workers, students, teammates, and even strangers. These people understand that life happens and that others have their own lives to live. They leave the door open in case things change and people want to spend time with them. The same goes for family and relatives who know that they will always have a place to stay if needed.

Wrap Up

The overall moral is that kindness can go a long way. Allowing others to come and join you if they want shows care, love, and gratitude. Having a door slammed in your face by someone you care about feels awful. These big hearted people want to make you feel good and spread their kindness if you let them.

Take care, stay safe, and remember your not alone and you have worth.
